Gin is made from the same base ingredient as vodka: neutral spirit. What separates gin from vodka is the inclusion of juniper and other botanicals during distillation. However, there are almost as many different ways of including these botanicals as there are different gins throughout the world, below is how we do it at Archie Rose:
To produce our gin we start with the finest wheat spirit – and we look no further than our own backyard, as Australia has the best wheat around. The decision to use wheat was a considered one, as in our book it provides the cleanest and smoothest base to infuse our gin botanicals.
Before distillation, we cut the spirit with local Sydney water that has been filtered six times for good measure, using a variety of processes. It may sound excessive, given the quality of the water to begin with, but in our opinion it’s worthwhile – and something you can appreciate with a direct taste from the tap at the distillery.
Then comes the distillation, we distil all our botanicals individually to ensure we capture every distinct flavour; and we do it all in our one-of-a-kind gin still. We use three different infusion methods for our botanicals, to allow us to tailor the distillation of each individual botanical. This allows us to treat the lighter, more floral botanicals in a different manner to the bolder and spicier botanicals, to capture even the most subtle of flavours.
In the end, however, the still is only as good as its distiller and it comes down to experience, intuition and an acute sense of timing – traits our distillers have in spades.
Each individual botanical distillate is then carefully blended by our distilling team, ready for bottling and distribution.

Archie Rose Gins can be enjoyed in a variety of ways and is a very versatile spirit. A few suggestions include: with your favourite tonic or soda water, in a martini, negroni, gimlet or in a summer spritz. You find a range of Archie Rose cocktail recipes here.
Not all gin is vegan, it’s dependent on the botanical distillates used in the recipe. If you are vegan, you can check out the botanicals for our limited release spirits here or otherwise contact our customer service team via info@archierose.com.au if you have any specific questions and we’re happy to assist.
The Coeliac Society of Australia states: All alcohol is gluten-free with the exception of beer. Please note however that whilst the distillation process at Archie Rose Distilling Co. should remove all traces of gluten from the spirits rendering them “gluten-free”, the fact that they are produced in a distillery that makes whisky and therefore stores tonnes of different grains and malts onsite, means there is a risk of cross-contamination. This is why we don’t list our spirits as “gluten-free” and we recommend customers seek their doctor’s advice.
As long as the bottle is kept out of direct sunlight and not exposed to extreme temperatures and sealed correctly your gin can last for many years in unopened bottles. In terms of opened bottles, we recommend drinking within six months of opening, as spirits will lose some flavour/character over time. This really depends on a couple of factors such as the size of the bottle, the ABV of the spirit, and the amount of spirit remaining in the bottle versus the air that has been introduced.
