The Archie Rose Book Club
What’s The Word On The Archie Rose Book Club?
The air is cooling and the days are shortening, which means the time to get cosy with a good book and a drink in hand is here. This year, we’re upping the ante with award-winning reads and a limited-edition gin to match.
Join us online or in person at the Archie Rose Book Club event at The Library Bar nestled within the State Library of NSW on 25 July to come together and discuss our two books - Birnam Wood by Eleanor Catton and The Bookbinder Of Jericho by Pip Williams.
The Event
The Archie Rose Book Club event at The Library Bar has now sold out. We’d love for you to join us virtually. Purchase a bottle of The Writer’s Gin and you’ll receive a link to join the event virtually.
Hosted by Michael Williams, editor of The Monthly, the event will include a complimentary welcome cocktail on arrival, and the opportunity to take part in an interactive Q&A session to discuss two new books with our literary panel.
For those unable to attend in person everyone who purchases a bottle of The Writer’s Gin will also receive a link to join us virtually, ensuring that you don’t miss out.
The Books
Birnam Wood is a multilayered, character-driven thriller by Booker Prize winner Eleanor Catton. An impossible-to-put-down, brilliantly constructed examination of some of the most pressing issues of our times, and just how far human beings will go to ensure our own survival.
Brimming with riveting historical detail, The Bookbinder Of Jericho is the latest from international best-selling author Pip Williams. This heartwrenching tale of the plight of working-class women, the war effort and refugees during World War I is at the top of our must-read list this year.
The Gin
Allow us to introduce you to The Writer’s Gin, our latest limited edition gin conceived together with Booktopia, Evi.O Studio and Michael Williams, the editor of The Monthly magazine.
Featuring a front label quote from iconic Australian author Helen Garner that says: “Every page of writing is the result of a thousand tiny decisions and desperate acts of will,” it’s a gin that pays testament to the agony and ecstasy of writing and the authors who persist.
Producing a gin to pair with such a feat requires a similar passion and purpose and so The Writer’s Gin was created to be lost in, to linger in the mind and to craft a mood that stays with you as you read or write.
This indulgent sip is crafted with a classic Australiana botanical blend featuring Australian peach, native thyme, raspberry and lemon myrtle. Drink it on a lazy afternoon paired with tonic and your novel of choice.
